A Few of the Whiskies to talk about at WoW 2011

The Dalmore - From his headquarters in the The Dalmore Sample Room, Master Distiller Richard “The Nose” Paterson ensures the pedigree of this noble whisky. He manages the quality of The Dalmore’s stocks aging in American White Oak and the final marriage in “Matusalem” Oloroso Sherry butts from Gonzalez Byass that transforms the whisky into the legend. The King Alexander III expression has been aged or finished in various woods including bourbon casks, French barriques, sherry butts, madeira casks, port pipes and marsala barrels.

Isle of Jura - Just north of Islay lies The Isle of Jura and its eponymous distillery. Jura Master Distiller Willie Tait balances the heritage of The Isle of Jura’s core whiskies with new and exciting expressions sure to delight the senses.

Springbank - Campbelltown’s Springbank is the oldest independent family owned distillery in Scotland. They are one of only two distilleries to control every step of the whisky making process from malting the barely through bottling on the same premises. Springbank single malt is often enjoyed for its sherry influenced flavors while the peated barley gives an expressive smokiness to the equation.

High West – Located in Park City, Utah, at 7000 feet above sea level, High West Distillery produces small batch mountain crafted spirits sure to raise yours. Under the supervision of Proprietor and Distiller David Perkins, High West creates a sublime selection of pure American whiskey including the inventive Bourye, a deliciously proprietary marriage of rye and bourbon.

Amrut – Taking the whisky world by storm in 2010, Amrut Fusion was named the third best whisky in the world by noted whisky writer Jim Murray. The climate and altitude of the Amrut distillery in Bangalore create an environment where whisky ages much quicker than in Scotland but don’t let the lack of an age statement on the label fool you. Amrut’s products are young but spirited.

Ardbeg – What can be said about Ardbeg? It’s Ardbeg! Fasten your seat-belt. It’s going to be a peaty ride!

Glenglassaugh – The stills at Glenglassaugh's Highlands distillery were silenced in 1986. Rescued from the mothballs in 2008 by The Scalent Group, the world waits for the new make distilled in 2009 to mature long enough to call it Scottish Whisky. Meanwhile Glenglassaugh has released rare vintages including a 26 year old as well as the “over 30” and “over 40” rare cask series.  Sign up for our Thursday Night (3/24) Whisky Pairing with Glenglassaugh's Master Distiller Stuart Nickerson.

Laphroaig - The harsh climate and tough landscape if Islay created a hardy people known as Ileachs whose single-mindedness and honesty is as distinctive as Laphroaig. Aromas of peat, barley and heather greet the palate with a pungent richness unique to this classic range of single malt.

Old Pulteney - The most northern distillery on the Scottish mainland, The Pulteney Distillery, produces single malt whisky as distinctive as it's unique location in the city of Wick. Distillery manager Malcolm Waring presides over the traditional craftsmanship that ensures the continued quality that marks Old Pulteney Single Malt.

Balblair - Established in 1790, Balblair is the oldest working distillery in the Scottish Highlands. The virtually unpeated barley yields a delicate whisky full of fruity esters that is aged in a mixture of American and Spanish oak casks prior to hand selection by distillery manager John MacDonald at their peak of maturity.
