Kilchoman Distillery Launch Port Cask Matured Limited Edition


The Port Cask Matured limited edition was aged for the full term of its maturation in ruby port hogsheads from two contrasting ages.

The 2024 edition will be the third release from Kilchoman of a Port Cask Matured limited edition.  Their first release in 2014, was matured for three years in fresh port casks.  The second edition, released in 2018, was a combination of three and four year old casks.  This, the 2024 edition, was matured in refill casks for a minimum of six years.

Tasting Notes: Kilchoman Port Cask Matured Limited Edition

  • Nose:Red berries and figs with citrus, cinnamon and smoked paprika.
  • Palate: Cooked strawberries, smoked meats, sweet tobacco and charcoal smoke.
  • Finish: Warming with waves of fruity sweetness and ashy smoke

Unlike most port releases from other distilleries, this is not a port cask finish, the whisky has only been matured in port hogsheads.  Whilst being more challenging to get right, Kilchoman’s full term maturation approach is something Anthony Wills, Kilchoman Founder, is committed to continuing.

“When we started Kilchoman, we always wanted to do things slightly differently, some distilleries do release full maturation bottlings, but most tend to do finishes.  Full term maturation is fun because you don’t always know how it’s going to work out.  We’re fortunate that the Kilchoman spirit character lends itself to bind together with experimental casks very nicely.

The time spent in port casks has added layers of red berries and smoked meats to the natural maritime peat smoke and citrus sweetness of the Kilchoman spirit,” Anthony Wills, Kilchoman Founder.

Port Cask Matured Limited Edition is available from Kilchoman stockists around the world from this week.
