Japanese Pure Malt Whisky are whisky that has been made by two or more malts whiskies added together. Grain Whiskies can not be added to make a Pure Malt Whisky. This kind of whisky has become more popular as the taste can be so different for just a Single Malt Whisky.

70cl / 46.00% - From the Kaikyo Distilley comes Hatozaki Pure Malt, made with 100% malt whiskies, distilled largely (if not entirely?) in Scotland, and further aged in Japan. The spirit is amtured in a trio of cask types - bourbon, sherry and Mizunara casks. Its named after the nearby Hatozaki lighthouse, which is the oldest stone lighthouse in Japan.

Its made with whiskies sourced from Scottish distilleries, blended with Japanese whisky and volcanic-stone-filtered water. The distillery is located in the Tottori Prefecture, the least populous prefecture in Japan, well-known for its sand dunes.

Tomintoul Distillery Tour
Planet Whiskies had a fantastic trip up to the Speyside Whisky region of Scotland in February 2024 to visit Angus Dundee Distillers Tomintoul Distillery within the Cairngorms National Park. Then, after the distillery tour and tasting, which was hosted by Iain Forteath, the master blender of Tomintoul, our press group travelled and stayed the night at the recently bought country home of Tomintoul House in the Aultmore Estate (previously called Aultmore House). Planet Whiskies has made the Tomintoul Distillery, Distillery of the Month for both March/April 2024.
