Gorm 2026 from Kilchoman Distillery

Named after the famously dark, peaty loch overlooked by the distillery, Kilchoman’s Loch Gorm 2026 Edition was matured in oloroso sherry butts for a minimum of 10 years.

The sherry soaked casks from Bodega José y Miguel Martín add layers of rish spice, dark chocolate and dried fruit character, which blance beautifully with Kilchoman’s peat smoke and citrus flavours.

“For me, sherry matured Kilchoman at 10 years old is close to its peak. The oloroso influence is impactful but not overwhelming, with a balance of sherry-soaked peat, roasted ham, nutmeg, orange peel, and sweet spices. The specific proportions of Spanish and French oak along with the unique seasoning process in Jerez, provide us with a cask that perfectly suits Kilchoman’s spirit character and Islay maturation,” Anthony Wills, Kilchoman Founder.

Tasting Notes for Loch Gorm 20206

  • Nose: Dried red fruits, barbecued meats, toasted walnuts and rish peat smoke.
  • Palate: Candied orange and tropical fruits, salted caramel and dried prunes with warming cinnamon, nutmeg and integrated rich smoke.
  • Finish: Lasting spices, toasted dark chocolate and liquorice with blanaced peat smoke.

“20 of the 23 casks selected were fresh (first fill) casks, these casks have an abundance of flavour, creating the tannic intensity of Loch Gorm’s peat smoke. The lighter influence of the 3 refill (second fill) casks act as a counterbalance to the intensity of the fresh casks, offsetting the European oak tannins with notes of dark chocolate, and orange peel. We very much hope you enjoy this year’s edition,” Anthony Wills, Kilchoman Founder.

Tomintoul Distillery Tour

Tomintoul Distillery

Planet Whiskies had a fantastic trip up to the Speyside Whisky region of Scotland in February 2024 to visit Angus Dundee Distillers Tomintoul Distillery within the Cairngorms National Park. Then, after the distillery tour and tasting, which was hosted by Iain Forteath, the master blender of Tomintoul, our press group travelled and stayed the night at the recently bought country home of Tomintoul House in the Aultmore Estate (previously called Aultmore House). Planet Whiskies has made the Tomintoul Distillery, Distillery of the Month for both March/April 2024.
