Bushmills Irish Whiskey has today unveiled the fourth series of its prestigious Causeway Collection from the world's oldest licenced whiskey distillery, on Ireland's rugged north Antrim coast.
The 2023 Causeway Collection, curated by Bushmills' visionary Master Blender, Alex Thomas, features nine rare cask-finished Irish single malts, carefully selected from Bushmills' unparalleled aged reserves.
All of these exceptional, non-chill-filtered whiskeys have been matured in oloroso sherry butts and bourbon barrels before undergoing unprecedented finishing in diverse casks among which new American oak, Sauternes, cuvée and cognac feature this year.
Sourced from across the globe, from Kentucky to Cognac and beyond, these casks infuse the whiskeys with an array of complex flavours and aromas. All sensational whiskeys, ranging in age from 10 to 23 years old, they stand as giants in their own right among the best of Irish single malt whiskeys.
A striking new bottle and pack design has been revealed for the collection this year to complement the beauty and excellence of the whiskey within. Their understated and timeless elegance comes as a bold statement by Bushmills in the realm of prestige single malts.
The boundless creativity and expertise of Bushmills' Master Blender, Alex Thomas shine through in every aspect of these limited edition, cask-finished Irish single malts:
"I have a passion for unusual wood and reimagining a traditional single malt which makes this collection a particularly exciting one to share. I'm obsessed with uncovering the untold secrets and character of these casks and this series is the perfect marriage of Bushmills timeless experience with fresh thinking and innovation" Bushmills Master Blender, Alex Thomas says.
Like the generations of Bushmills' Master Blenders before her, Alex takes inspiration from the Giant's Causeway, just a stone's throw from the distillery. The Causeway Collection's unique series of rare cask finishes represent exciting steps on the journey for single malt whiskey connoisseurs and Bushmills whiskey lovers.
Alex continues: "These sensational whiskeys deliver bold, untold waves of flavours that pay homage to the mythical heritage and natural landscape of Bushmills. We are delighted to share this very special collection with whiskey lovers all over the world."
Each decision from the cask selection and seasoning process, to the bottling and packaging is a testament to Bushmills' relentless pursuit of perfection, and their vision to continue crafting ground-breaking and prestige single malt whiskeys.
The 2023 Causeway Collection are all non-chill filtered and range in price from €100 to €450.

Tomintoul Distillery Tour
Planet Whiskies had a fantastic trip up to the Speyside Whisky region of Scotland in February 2024 to visit Angus Dundee Distillers Tomintoul Distillery within the Cairngorms National Park. Then, after the distillery tour and tasting, which was hosted by Iain Forteath, the master blender of Tomintoul, our press group travelled and stayed the night at the recently bought country home of Tomintoul House in the Aultmore Estate (previously called Aultmore House). Planet Whiskies has made the Tomintoul Distillery, Distillery of the Month for both March/April 2024.
