With Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukah, and other exhilarating end of the year festivities fast approaching, we allowed ourselves a brief respite to slow down and celebrate, naturally, with the water of life, the finale of our grand whisky venture, Whiskies of the World Austin, Texas.
The first one, and now we can gladly announce the annual. The response was awesome; we’re receiving tons of positive feedback from the raving attendees who promise us “to be back”. Check out the comments and pictures on our reviews page, and plan to join us again or make it your first WoW Austin, for the next year. Date will be announced soon!
We managed to sample quite a few from about 200 expressions of 50 brands, old and renown to newly emerged, from every corner of the world willing and able to produce whisky. Lorded scotches, in vogue Irish, creative American, distinguishable Canadian, respectable Indian, persuasive Australian; all were there to immerse and impress.

Now that the Whiskey Gospel has Gone Global
| At WoW Austin, we tasted how India's Amrut and Australia’s (Tasmanian) Sullivan's Cove emphasize the way traditionally made spirits take on distinctive terroirs. For Amrut, a Bangalor distillery that began as rum producer for the Indian army, copper pot-stilled northern Indian malt ages at a significantly faster rate than in Scotland in India's warmer climate (a maximum of seven years). |

Expo Preview
Anticipate exploring every booth, to savor both old and familiar expressions and to look for new launches. Every year we search for new distilleries and expressions. One of such amazing “discoveries” will be the first English single malt whisky in 100 years launched by the English Whisky Co at the end of 2009, and only recently available to the US whisky imbiber. Read the whisky Chapters (literary, try the expressions of various ages and of various character) to follow the development of the fine malt from the newly built distillery. At the Expo, we’ll cover the releases from 3 YO, both peated and unpeted versions, to continuum (the current oldest bottling states 11 years); quite of a “Book” don’t you think?
Whisk(e)y and Thanksgiving |
Thanksgiving is the time wonderfully designed for family bonding, sharing the recent happenings, and as it goes, a dram of whisky. As always, we suggest accompanying the traditional Thanksgiving dishes with the whisky of your choice: Scotch, Irish or of non-Celtic origins: American bourbon, rye, grain, as well as the rest of the world libations; no one sets the limits for liking and experimentation. Or maybe you feel creative and even craft a whisky inspired cocktail using your favorite spirit. After giving thanks, we can get together on Facebook and share our best and most unexpected pairings and findings.
