Introducing The Baineach: The Second Release in the Highland Legacy Series from GlenWyvis
Published Date: 2nd April 2026
Dingwall, Scotland – March 2026
GlenWyvis Distillery has announced the launch of The Baineach, the second release in its Highland Legacy Series, a collection of limited-edition whiskies celebrating traditional Highland occupations.
The Baineach, Gaelic for “weaver”, pays tribute to the historic craft of weaving and the women whose work with wool and loom helped shape the cultural fabric of the Scottish Highlands. The series began with its inaugural bottling, The Drover, released in summer 2025. The Baineach will be available from 28 March 2026 via the distillery’s website and through select specialist whisky retailers.
Only 1,500 bottles of The Baineach will be released internationally across select markets including Sweden, Denmark, Germany and Japan, making this a highly limited edition for collectors and enthusiasts alike.
A Tribute to Highland Craft
Wrapped in the distinctive GlenWyvis tartan, The Baineach is matured in a combination of Ruby Port and refill Oloroso sherry casks, creating a rich and layered whisky that reflects the craftsmanship and resilience of Highland weaving traditions.
Weaving has long been central to Highland life, producing the robust tartans and enduring tweeds designed to withstand the elements while reflecting the colours and landscapes of the Highlands. The Baineach honours the women who carried forward this tradition, celebrating their creativity, skill and enduring legacy.
Craig MacRitchie, Distillery Manager at GlenWyvis, said:
“The Baineach whisky is a tribute to the enduring spirit of the women of the Scottish Highlands, woven through generations and ready to be enjoyed for generations to come.”
Distinctive Label Artwork
The label for The Baineach was commissioned from Fiona Mackenzie, who created an illustration inspired by traditional Highland weaving culture.
Mackenzie explained:“A figure at the loom was the starting point from the GlenWyvis distillery. The idea of having a woman inspired me; and made me wonder if there are many or any female figures on whisky bottles, probably not in the past at least. The drawings for the woman came from studies of my sister Sarah, and I thought with The Drover having a Highland bull on its label, another animal connection would have to be a faithful dog.
We settled on an eighteenth-century loom, with the weaver seated in a cottage with white roses, the symbol of the Jacobite’s, at the entrance. She wears a Luckenbooth brooch on her breast, another Scottish symbol with connections to Mary Queen of Scots.
A common eighteenth-century Scottish phrase is ‘dreeing the weird’, meaning enduring fate, as it must have been a hard environment and time to live in. However, I wanted some joy with the figure and her companion, recalling a picturesque moment.”
