New Special Edition Isle Of Skye Bottle Launched - 14th November, 2013

New Special Edition Isle Of Skye Bottle Launched - 14th November, 2013A special UK edition of the Isle of Skye 8 Year Old Blended Scotch Whisky bottle featuring a bespoke fundraising label has been launched by Ian Macleod Distillers with 15p from the sale of each bottle going directly to Scottish Mountain Rescue.

Timed to capitalise on peak Christmas sales, the creation of the new bottle label follows the recent announcement of a unique three year partnership agreement between the charity and Ian Macleod Distillers, owners of the Isle of Skye Blended Scotch Whisky brand.

The aim of the partnership is to generate essential funds and raise awareness of the importance of Scottish Mountain Rescue’s voluntary work across Scotland. Over £100,000 has already been invested by the Distiller towards a dedicated ‘Isle of Skye Mountain Spirit’ campaign, which will contribute to the supply of vital new specialised rescue equipment, support to the SARDA (Search and Rescue Dog Associations) rescue dogs and the provision of highly specialised avalanche rescue training across the Charity’s 26 volunteer Mountain rescue teams in year one of the sponsorship.

This special UK edition of the 8 Year Old featuring a bespoke fundraising label has been launched to highlight the Mountain Spirit campaign. The label features a mountaineering image and a clear message that every bottle sold will help save lives.

Neil Boyd, Director of Malt Whiskies for Ian Macleod Distillers, said:

“The new edition bottle is a departure from the original packaging with an instantly recognisable mountaineering image and clear message that every bottle sold will help save lives.  With 15p from every bottle sale going directly to Scottish Mountain Rescue as well as on-going fundraising and cash donations, we can deliver state-of-the-art training and equipment to help safeguard the hundreds of volunteers who risk their lives on a daily basis to help others.

“There were eight avalanche-related fatalities in Scotland last winter with the volunteers from Glencoe Mountain Rescue team responding to one particular incident that claimed the lives of four people.  You cannot underestimate the pressure these teams are under in terms of resources and we hope that everyone will really get behind this campaign.”

Isle of Skye 8 Year Old Blended Scotch Whisky is unique in the UK blended whisky market as the majority of blended scotch whiskies are un-aged, whereas all the distinctive single malt and grain whiskies used in the Isle of Skye blend recipe are matured in oak casks for at least eight years.

The new bottle of Isle of Skye 8 Year Old Blended Scotch Whisky is now available in the on and off trade with stockists including Scottish Tesco and ASDA stores as well as specialist and independents, RRP £17.50. Tomintoul Distillery Tour

Tomintoul Distillery

Planet Whiskies had a fantastic trip up to the Speyside Whisky region of Scotland in February 2024 to visit Angus Dundee Distillers Tomintoul Distillery within the Cairngorms National Park. Then, after the distillery tour and tasting, which was hosted by Iain Forteath, the master blender of Tomintoul, our press group travelled and stayed the night at the recently bought country home of Tomintoul House in the Aultmore Estate (previously called Aultmore House). Planet Whiskies has made the Tomintoul Distillery, Distillery of the Month for both March/April 2024.
