Bushmills Irish Whiskey Release A 23 Year Old Madeira Cask Aged Single Malt From Its Prestigious Causeway Collection Into Travel Retail Exclusively For Avolta.

- Available only through Avolta’s World Duty Free stores at Heathrow Airport for one month from the end of May, this exquisite new expression will later be released to Avolta outlets worldwide.
Bushmills, County Antrim, 29th May 2024: Bushmills Irish Whiskey, from the world’s oldest licensed whiskey distillery, proudly presents a rare, limited-edition 23 Year Old Madeira Cask. This distinguished new addition to the brand’s elusive and iconic Causeway Collection has been exclusively matured in Madeira fortified wine oak casks for 23 years, and hosts a cask strength ABV of 53.8%.
This outstanding whiskey will initially be available only from Avolta’s World Duty-Free stores at Heathrow Airport from the end of May, before global release one month later across Avolta travel retail outlets worldwide. Bushmills’ 400 year-long thirst for the uncommon provides the inspiration behind for its coveted Causeway Collection. These releases feature some of the rarest cask single malt cask finishes in the world.
The 23 Year Old Madeira Cask – the collection’s latest jewel, aged exclusively in first fill Madeira oak casks – is no exception. Filled on 30th June 2000, it is a single malt whiskey of unparalleled depth and complexity.
Speaking of her ambition in creating this latest release, Bushmills master blender Alex Thomas says: “I wanted to share something truly unique for our partners at AVOLTA. I chose this single malt aged exclusively in Madeira casks for its distinct profile, bursting with summer fruits, sweet peach and roasted nuts.”
She explains the time-honoured expertise of generations of Bushmills whiskey-makers, past and present, that have influenced this latest expression: “Each decision – from the cask selection and seasoning process, to the bottling and packaging – is testament to our restless pursuit of perfection and determination to delight consumers with ground-breaking and prestigious single malt whiskeys. Having spent 23 years maturing in Madeira casks alone, I’m confident this one will be hugely popular … its luscious sweetness is basically summer in a glass!”.
To mark the launch, Bushmills will conduct sampling and gifting activities in the World Duty Free store in Terminal 3 of Heathrow Airport, plus host an exciting competition offering travellers the opportunity to celebrate the release of the 23 Year Old Madeira Cask this coming Father’s Day. Each purchase of a Causeway Collection 23 Year Old Madeira Cask will enter the passenger into a dip draw for a miniature bottle of one of the most beloved expressions from previous Causeway Collection releases. Prizes will be awarded on an instant win basis while stocks last.
Bushmills 23 Year Old Madeira Cask will be available from World Duty Free stores at Heathrow Airport from 29th May 2024 with an RRP of $507/ €440 / £390.
Bushmills 23 Year Old Madeira Cask Tasting Notes:
ABV: 53.8% ABV
Colour: Copper mahogany
Nose: Waves of ripe summer fruits, caramelised sugar, black coffee and walnut oil.
Taste: This exquisite single malt is bursting with sweet peach and orange peel followed by roasted nuts, honey combined with black coffee and gentle spice.
Finish: Delicate, dry and long fruity finish developing into rich nutty praline and toasted cocoa.

Planet Whiskies had a fantastic trip up to the Speyside Whisky region of Scotland in February 2024 to visit Angus Dundee Distillers Tomintoul Distillery within the Cairngorms National Park.
