Glengoyne unveils exquisite 35 year old Decanter - 11th November, 2013

Glengoyne unveils exquisite 35yo decanter - 11th November, 2013Glengoyne Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky has unveiled a stunning and rare 35 year old limited edition.

This exquisite malt is expected to become a rare collectors’ item with only 500 decanters released for sale globally.  The bespoke hand-blown crystal decanter has been engraved with gold inlay and is individually numbered on its gold collar. Presented in a solid oak lacquered gull wing box with a stitched ‘Bentley Red’ leather interior and base, the gift box also comes complete with an individually numbered leather book, which tells the story of the brand.

Neil Boyd comments abouts The Glengoyne 35 year old

Commenting on the new Glengoyne, Neil Boyd, Director of Malt Whiskies for Ian Macleod Distillers, said:  “The Glengoyne 35yo is an exceptionally rare whisky. Distilled in the 1970’s and 35 years in the making, this rich malt is golden in colour with tropical fruit intensity and a liquorice and dark chocolate finish. It’s truly outstanding and the beautifully designed packaging is in-keeping with the distinct, premium and stylish design of the enhanced Glengoyne brand collection, launched last year.”

Glengoyne is owned by one of Scotland’s leading, independent, family-owned distillers, Ian Macleod Distillers Ltd. The new 35yo expression has been crafted from some of the finest sherry casks within Glengoyne’s traditional dunnage warehouses. Unlike most other single malt whiskies, Glengoyne dries its malted barley using only warm air resulting in this extremely subtle yet complex malt where all the delicate flavours are freely expressed.

The Glengoyne Distillery - highly regarded as Scotland’s most beautiful distillery in Dumgoyne near Loch Lomond – runs its stills slower than any other distillery, supporting the claim that Glengoyne genuinely is “Worth the Wait”.

Tasting notes for The Glengoyne 35 year old decanter

NOSE:
The Glengoyne 35yo has a rich full nose with fantastic depth. The classic Glengoyne apple character is at its heart, with complementary notes of papaya, mango and coconut giving a beautiful scent that can only come with decades in oak. Aged leather, Victoria sponge, dried citrus peel, honeycomb and saffron all add to the complexity of this incising nose.

PALATE:
A great oily texture that instantly coats the mouth with a burst of fruit. A whisky to hold on to the palate for a long times as it keeps developing, with dried fruit, floral notes and gentle spice becoming almost creamy after time.

FINISH:
The tropical fruit intensity returns and lingers at the back of the throat while the whisky becomes slowly drier; with liquorice, brown sugar and dark chocolate beautifully balanced. A whisky not to be rushed.

The Glengoyne 35yo will be available from November. RRP £2,850. For more information, please visit www.glengoyne.com.

Tomintoul Distillery Tour

Tomintoul Distillery

Planet Whiskies had a fantastic trip up to the Speyside Whisky region of Scotland in February 2024 to visit Angus Dundee Distillers Tomintoul Distillery within the Cairngorms National Park. Then, after the distillery tour and tasting, which was hosted by Iain Forteath, the master blender of Tomintoul, our press group travelled and stayed the night at the recently bought country home of Tomintoul House in the Aultmore Estate (previously called Aultmore House). Planet Whiskies has made the Tomintoul Distillery, Distillery of the Month for both March/April 2024.
