Templeton Rye Legend

Straight from the still

claireHey all, quick update for you from the Templeton Rye intern!

Over the past month and a half I have gotten to know the Templeton Rye brand and even more importantly, the Templeton Rye team. I've had a great experience so far and I've been learning a lot. Since starting in May, I have had the opportunity to work on several important projects and events and have been getting to know a lot of Templeton Rye fans!

A main focus for me this summer has been our presence at the Downtown Des Moines Farmers Market where we are selling our BBQ sauce, barrel smoking pieces and tee shirts. The best part has been getting to know many Templeton Rye supporters and hearing your TR stories. We've had people young and old describe their first time trying "The Good Stuff," their family connections to Templeton Rye, and even tales of coming from out-of-state to bootleg a bottle back home. It's great to know our product is being well received by so many of you and we appreciate all your feedback!

Another event that we are really looking forward to is Rock & Rye, our second annual music festival, coming up August 8th. I have luckily been able to be a part of the planning and preparation of this fantastic day, one full of great music, great BBQ, and of course, distillery tours. I see it as a fun way to say thanks to all of you who support our product and a way for us to support the local community. Be sure to get your tickets!

I look forward to meeting more of you as the summer continues and thank you all for your support of Templeton Rye.

Cheers,
Claire Bisanz, Summer Intern, Templeton Rye

Templeton Rye Legend

Straight from the still

Greetings, Templeton Rye fans! Kevin Boersma, Distillery Manager here, giving you a quick update on things that are going on around the distillery in Templeton. We have been working hard on several projects including installing barn boards on a portion of our exterior, new copper rain gutters and a new sign on the outside of the distillery (photos below). We are just finishing up on a big landscaping project on the west side of the distillery where we planted an assortment of native grasses and flowers. It is going to look pretty cool when completed.

Last week, we bottled a little of our bbq sauce, which will be available Saturday at our first weekend at the Downtown Des Moines Farmers Market. We sell the sauce exclusively at the farmer's market along with our unique barrel smoking pieces, t-shirts and tickets for our August 8th Rock & Rye music festival at the distillery in Templeton. The remainder of our farmer's market dates may be seen here. Please stop by and say hello.

We also just put some new distillery videos on YouTube. Pat Zubrod discusses our labeling process and Keith Kerkhoff discusses our distilling process at Templeton Rye.

Finally, our current tour dates and times are posted on the website so come out and see us. If you are looking for something unique to do this summer with a group of 10-20 people, be sure to check out our Ultimate Templeton Experience.

Well, that is about all for now from Templeton. Remember, when it's your turn to buy, make it a Templeton Rye!

Cheers,
Kevin Boersma, Distillery Manager, Templeton Rye

Where's The Good Stuff? A few notes on availability.

We've received a few inquiries about our inventory in response to many of you having a hard time tracking down a bottle of The Good Stuff in Iowa, so we thought we'd fill you in on the details. As for our inventory, here's the scoop: Our product takes over four years to make, so we only have available for sale what we made four-plus years ago. We're still a small company and were a very small company back then, which is why we're only currently selling in two states (Iowa and Illinois).

Some of you may remember that we sold our first year's worth of product in three-and-a-half months, and then we were totally out of product for over eight months. Rather than finding ourselves in that position again, we've made a strategic decision to do a monthly allocation. We put together our allocation plan for Iowa based on our previous year's experience, but yes — it's tight, as we simply do not have a lot of whiskey.

We plan to send the following number of cases to the State of Iowa at or near the beginning of each month through December 2009:

April - 400
May - 500
June - 400
July - 500
August - 400
September - 400
October - 1,200
November - 1,200
December - 600

We also wanted to take a moment to thank all of our fans out there. We truly appreciate all your support (and patience)! If you have further questions or comments about our allocation strategy, please leave a comment below or reach out to us via email.

Planet Whiskies has made the Tomintoul Distillery, Distillery of the Month for both March/April 2024.
