Australian single malt whisky Starward is releasing limited-edition Starward x Lagavulin in the UK via premium drinks distributor Speciality Brands. The innovative expression, which is only available in small quantities, will be available this March at selected partners.

Celebrated by enthusiasts all around the world, Lagavulin is known for its distinct, rich, complex, and intensely smoky peated single malt Scotch whisky. The Starward team sourced barrels from the Scottish distillery, melding the tropical notes of its signature red wine barrel matured whisky with the rich and earthy coastal peat from Lagavulin barrels.

Starward Founder, David Vitale, says “My earliest inspiration for Starward was to create a deliciously distinctive whisky, and while we certainly hit that brief with our red wine barrel matured whisky, what whisky better epitomises distinctively delicious than Lagavulin? Sourcing these barrels to create this exciting expression gives us a magical moment to celebrate the very best of Australian curiosity and Scottish tradition.”

The whisky begins its maturation in red wine barrels, where the new make spirit develops generous notes of red berried, soft spice, and vanilla. It is then transferred into ex-Lagavulin casks, building depth and structure while introducing a savoury maritime edge. The result is a richly flavoured Australian single malt, balancing ripe nectarine and charred pineapple with wisps of coastal peat and a lingering, smouldering dry oak finish.

Starward x Lagavulin, 48% ABV, RRP £125, will be available from March onwards at selected partners in on and off-trade.
